Cracked nipple

Omg, I have a cracked nipple and it is so painful! Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to heal this ASAP?!

Ouch!! Painful, I responded to your other post earlier about biting down. Apply some breastmilk after nursing and allowing it to air dry! Also try pumping so your supply does not dry up.

Tips:

- apply breastmilk around the area after nursing

- apply ointment - Lansioh has one, wipe off before nursing 

- nipple shields are reallly helpful for the pain 

- nipple ice packs are also great

- change nursing pad frequency to prevent infection

Try changing your nursing position! I know babies latches can change as they grow, this may be a latch problem. Also, with thrush your nipples can crack and become very painful, so you may want to look in to that! So sorry you're dealing with that... feel better soon!

Nipple shield!! It saved my life, and my nipples. Ha! Really though, I was worried about nipple confusion but I had to use one with all my babies and they were all fine. I used it on the nipple that was cracked so it could heal, then would stop using it. My lactation nurse told me that in 30 years of her job, she has really only seen true nipple confusion twice. Once you've gotten the nipple healed, work on better latching. It will come, I promise.

Cracked nipples are awful! Especially if you are pumping. I got a bunch of blood in my milk one from a crack. Nipple butter!!!! Use nipple butter before and after if need be but ALWAYS. It really does help.

I loved the lanolin nipple cream.  It worked like magic and only needed to use a little drop.

Definitely try a nipple shield until it heals, and lots of nipple butter! Also, see if you can get baby to change the latch a bit as that may be causing more discomfort. Keep it clean so that you don't get an infection.
