What is thyroid disease?

The thyroid gland is a small gland that is located in the front of the neck just above the collar bone. It is responsible for making thyroid hormone which controls almost all of the metabolic processes in the body, including the metabolism rate and heart rate. People with hyperthyroidism produce too much thyroid hormone and people with hypothyroidism produce too little or no thyroid hormone.
