Am thinking about starting meditation. Do the apps really work? Are there books you recommend? Not sure where to start.

I started this summer and love it!  I highly suggest using the headspace app.

I've tried headspace before and thought it was great! I've also just looked up meditation/guided relaxation videos on YouTube, when I didn't want to pay for an app and found some that I liked.

meditation can be very beneficial for some.  i do it along with yoga a couple times a week. I also just use videos from youtube

I just use videos, too. I even like ASMR videos. I find them totally relaxing!

I use the Calm app instead of Headspace.  I really like that it has a daily meditation every day that's different.  I like having a meditation that is guided so the app really helps me.  There are also a lot on youtube if you search

I haven't tried any of these apps, I am going to look into some of these ideas.  Thanks for posting!  I've been thinking about doing it as well!

I use headspace or look up videos on youtube to listen to. They both help a lot with relaxing the mind!

I have never felt I could "wrap my head" around meditation, until recently. Of all things, I reconnected with a long lost friend and she has become a meditation guru of sorts. Her style really speaks to me, so I've been following her and have tried some of her meditations. I highly recommend her meditation video for insomnia. https://www.meditationwithheart.com/

I would try youtube because it's free and there are some really good videos on there. I use them a lot for insomnia.

Meditation is definitely a skill and a muscle worth developing. Sometimes you have to reach for the most simple options and if you have a smart phone you have access to a lot of free options. Just get started I say.

YouTube has a great children's tai chi site. It's so amazing and I love doing it with my 6 year old. It's inspiring and relaxing. I know it's not the same as meditation but I thought... hey similar vein and maybe some other parent could benefit from knowing of this.

If you have an Alexa, there is a skill you can activate that will lead you through a guided meditation every day!

I find that an actual class is the best way to learn and then you can continue your practice on your own after that for weeks or months to come.

Meditation through Yoga has been very beneficial for me. I typically go to hot yoga and meditate-- it's such an amazing relaxing experience. You're sweating out toxins and just releasing every stress and every care-- love it!!

I would look at cognitive breathing exercises as well.  They are used for anxiety reduction, etc., but have a really similar effect for me.  Just focusing on diaphragmic breathing and relaxing your body.  Until I do it, I never realize how much tension I'm holding, especially in my shoulders and jaw.

Try apps like 10 percent happier meditation and calm, Alexa has some options too. But I personally like the apps more.

I've really enjoyed the headspace app. Just start doing a few exercises and soon you'll figure out what works best for you!
